Diathermocoagulation

What is electrocoagulation of biological tissues❓

Therapeutic electrocoagulation is a surgical method of temperature influence on pathological tissue by means of constant or alternating high frequency electric current. As a result, the destruction and deposition of proteins, and accordingly — the destruction of living tissue with the formation of scab (necrotic, necrotic tissue). When using high frequency current, this method of electrocoagulation is called diathermocoagulation.

In surgery and gynecology, the method of electrocoagulation has long been used to cut tissues, stop bleeding from small vessels during surgery, cauterize cervical erosion, remove polyps and warts in the area of external genitals. A little later it was used in dermatology and cosmetology for removal of lipomas, warts, papillomas, corns, genital warts, hemangiomas, small capillaries, moles (nevi) and elimination of other skin defects.

The procedure takes from a few seconds to a minute. The area to be exposed is pre-treated with an antiseptic solution. Due to the pain, local anesthesia is performed. The defect protruding above the skin surface is removed by means of an electrode in the form of a loop or a knife.

To eliminate pain, we use application anesthesia in the form of cream or gel for 20 – 25 minutes. Then there is the process of removal.

The resulting scab before its rejection is treated daily with a 5% solution of potassium permanganate. “Crust” is not recommended to remove to avoid suppuration and scar formation. Full healing lasts 8-12 days, during which the scab disappears on its own. At the site of the defect after electrocoagulation scars remain almost never.
